The Lost Homework
Richard O’Neill

The story is about a young Traveller named Sonny who is having a busy weekend with his family and community. When the weekend is over, he cannot find his homework and is worried because he usually completes the work on a Friday night and always hands it in on time. He is unable to find the homework, so he returns to school with a note from his mother explaining that the homework has been lost. While discussing his busy weekend and sharing his experiences with his friends, he realises that he has learned a wide range of skills. The story highlights the importance of community, and that we are able to learn from our life experiences as well as schoolwork. The story introduces the close-knit Traveller community and challenges common stereotypes.
