Win £225 of books for your school
in our book review competition

We're inviting schools across the UK to review a book that celebrates diversity, challenges stereotypes or helps us understand different people and experiences.

How to enter

1. Choose your book

Pick a book that celebrates diversity, challenges stereotypes or explores identity, families, fairness or belonging. It doesn't need to be on our Diverse Book List, but you're welcome to use the list for inspiration. This could be a picture book or a novel that is suitable for under 18s.

2. Create your review as a carousel for Instagram. You can write it in English or Welsh.

Create the words for six short slides:

  1. The hook: Grab our attention!

  2. What's it about? Tell us about the story.

  3. Why read it? What makes it brilliant?

  4. Why does it matter? What makes the book important?

  5. You'll love this book if… Who would enjoy it?

  6. The call to action: Encourage readers to do something to find the book!

3. Submit your entry

Closing date: Friday 11th December 2026. Winners drawn the week beginning 14th December 2026. The box will be sent out in January 2027.

Terms and Conditions

1. Who can enter?

The competition is open to primary, secondary, special and alternative provision schools across the United Kingdom.

Entry is free.

Each school may submit one entry only.

Entries must be submitted by a teacher or authorised member of school staff aged 18 or over.

Reviews may be created by an individual pupil, a group of pupils or a whole class.

2. How to enter

To enter, schools must:

  • Choose a book that celebrates diversity, challenges stereotypes or explores different people, families, identities, experiences or belonging. The book does not need to feature on the Diverse Book List.

  • Create a six-slide carousel for Instagram, including an opening hook, a summary of the book, reasons to read it, why the book matters, who would enjoy it and a final call to action.

  • Submit their entry through the official competition form on the More Than Flags and Rainbows website.

  • Schools do not need to design or upload finished social media graphics. They simply provide the text for each slide, and More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC will turn selected submissions into Instagram carousels.

3. Closing date

The competition closes at 11:59 pm on Friday 11 December 2026.

Entries received after this deadline will not be included in the prize draw.

4. Prizes

There are 11 prizes available:

  • 1 first prize: A Diverse Book Box worth £225 for the winning school.

  • 10 additional prizes: One inclusive picture book per winning school.

Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.

The Diverse Book Box will be dispatched in January 2027. Other prizes will be dispatched as soon as reasonably practicable.

5. How winners are selected

All qualifying entries will be entered into a random prize draw.

Winners will be drawn during the week beginning Monday 14 December 2026.

Each eligible school has an equal chance of winning, regardless of the age of its pupils or the quality of its writing or presentation.

A school may win a maximum of one prize.

More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC reserves the right to exclude entries that do not meet the competition requirements.

6. Winner notification and acceptance

Winning schools will be contacted by email during or shortly after the week beginning 14 December 2026.

All winner notification emails will be sent from hello@morethanflagsandrainbows.com.

Winners must respond to the email and accept their prize within seven calendar days of the notification being sent.

Schools should check their junk or spam folders to avoid missing the notification.

If a winner does not respond within seven calendar days, their prize may be forfeited and another eligible school selected at random.

Winning schools may be asked to provide a postal address to arrange delivery of their prize.

7. Photographs, safeguarding and permissions

No children's faces may appear in any submitted photographs or images.

Entries must not include children's names or other information that could identify individual pupils.

Schools are responsible for checking that submitted photographs do not contain identifying details, including visible names or other personal information.

Any photographs, illustrations or other materials submitted must be suitable for public sharing.

By entering, the submitting member of staff confirms that their school has obtained all necessary permissions to submit and publish the pupils' work and any accompanying images.

Schools must ensure they have the necessary rights or permissions to share any submitted photographs or artwork.

More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC reserves the right to reject or request amendments to any submission that raises safeguarding, privacy or copyright concerns.

8. Publication of entries

By entering the competition, schools acknowledge and agree that all qualifying entries may be featured on the More Than Flags and Rainbows Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn pages, whether or not they win a prize.

More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC may turn submitted reviews into branded social media carousels.

Reviews may be edited for spelling, grammar, length and formatting without materially changing the pupils' intended meaning.

The school may be credited by name, but individual pupils will not be identified.

Publication is at the discretion of More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC, and submission does not guarantee that an entry will be featured.

Schools retain ownership of their original work but grant More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, adapt for formatting and publish the submitted materials for the competition and its associated social media promotion.

Schools may contact hello@morethanflagsandrainbows.com with concerns about published material or to request its removal. We will consider such requests promptly, although we cannot guarantee removal of content already shared by third parties.

9. Data protection

Personal information submitted through the competition form will be used to administer the competition, contact entrants, notify winners and arrange prizes.

Contact information will be handled in accordance with the More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC privacy notice and applicable UK data protection legislation.

Entrants may separately choose to receive future emails about resources, competitions, training and other activities.

Agreeing to receive marketing emails is not a condition of entering the competition.

Personal information will not be published as part of the competition.

10. General conditions

More Than Flags and Rainbows CIC reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entries and disqualify duplicate, incomplete, inappropriate or fraudulent submissions.

If circumstances outside the organiser's reasonable control make changes necessary, the organiser may amend, suspend or cancel the competition, taking reasonable steps to inform entrants.

The organiser's decisions regarding eligibility and the administration of the random draw will be final, subject to applicable law.
